What to Goes Into Music School Applications & Auditions?

Preparing for music school applications can be a very involved process. In addition to sending in an application and supplemental essays, students will often have to send in a portfolio. This involves preparing a lot of material that usually requires applicants to record themselves playing solo pieces or in an ensemble. It’s also important to be a well rounded and versatile musician. Our music educators recommend students work on their aural skills, music theory, music production, and songwriting. And of course, it’s imperative to perfect your musical skills so that your level of performance is higher. 

What to Expect in The Workshop

Once you’ve secured your spot in this workshop, your expert music educator will go over each aspect of the application and make sure your application is tailored to the specific programs you’ll be applying to. You’ll also refine your technical skills, practice your performance, and create prescreen auditions to send to your schools. By the time you finish the workshop, you’ll have a thorough understanding of the application process, completed application components, and the confidence to perform well at your auditions!

In this workshop, you set the schedule and pace of your sessions. Our expert music educator will even meet with you in your home, so sessions are comfortable and convenient for you. Whether you’re a complete beginner or you have some conversational skills, our Foreign Language Workshop can help! In the Hodis Learning & Music Foreign Language Workshop, you’ll build your vocabulary, gain conversational experience, and discover other cultures with our expert educators!

 

What To Expect

We have educators that can teach Spanish, Mandarin, and Korean, all of whom are fluent speakers with years of tutoring experience. During your introductory session, your educator will evaluate your experience and help you determine your goals. Do you want to get more comfortable conversing? Are you completely confused by grammar and conjugations? Based on your needs and goals, your educator will create a tailored workshop plan and ensure each session is focused and productive. Sessions can take place in your home or a convenient, public location like a library or coffee shop. They can even take place over Zoom, if you prefer or need virtual sessions.

 

In this flexible workshop, you get to set the schedule that works best for you and determine how often and how long you want to meet. However, we do have a set number of sessions we recommend in order for you to see measurable progress. The best way to learn a new language is through consistent practice over time!
